Finding Our Starting Points
For seven years, awareness, especially with the next generation, has been the co-op’s biggest challenge. Business Not as Usual is our bold response: a national campaign proving co-ops aren’t just another option but a values-led, purpose-driven alternative to traditional business models. Co-ops are community-owned solutions—and changemakers shaping fairer, more resilient futures. #CoopsAreChangemakers
Rides That Work for Everyone
In 2011, Peg City Car Co-op launched with just three cars and forty members. Today, they've grown to more than 160 vehicles and nearly 4,000 members—offering round-trip and free-floating carsharing across Winnipeg. By working together, they've created a service that saves members money, reduces CO₂ emissions, and cuts down on traffic and parking congestion.
It Takes a Village
Killick Ecovillage is Newfoundland's first cohousing initiative, incorporated as a nonprofit housing co-operative. Unlike condominiums where individuals hold private titles, Killick's co-operative model ensures property is owned collectively. Members purchase shares in the co-op, granting them the right to occupy their homes while keeping costs lower and stability higher.
From Workers to Owners
The Vancouver Cleaning Co-op is a worker-owned business serving clients across the Lower Mainland. Formed to challenge the status quo of the cleaning industry, TCC pairs professional service with worker empowerment and community care. As a co-op, cleaners are also owners, sharing both responsibility and reward—creating work done with pride, professionalism, and dignity.
