Co-ops Connecting People

What if your internet, TV, and phone provider wasn’t just a company—but a community builder? That’s the power behind Access Communications Co-operative, a Saskatchewan success story rooted in connection, care, and co-operation.

Founded in 1974 to meet a local need for affordable, reliable cable service in Regina, Access Communications has grown into a province-wide co-operative connecting over 200 communities across nearly 200,000 square kilometres of rural Saskatchewan. As a 100% community-owned, not-for-profit co-op, Access provides internet, television, phone, and security services—all while keeping ownership, profits, and impact local.

“The co-op model matters because we’re more than a service provider — we’re neighbours helping neighbours.”

Carmela Haines, President & CEO, Access Communications Co-operative

What began as a small cable co-op has evolved into a movement for good. Beyond keeping Saskatchewan connected, Access reinvests millions each year into the communities it serves—supporting local children’s programs, food security initiatives, and community events. Their TV Bingo program alone has raised more than $4 million for kids in need, while their Labour Day Show N Shine has helped provide over a million meals to Saskatchewan families.

Guided by the values of co-operation and community ownership, Access continues to embody what it means to be a truly local business. Through AccessNow TV and Radio, they give Saskatchewan voices a platform to be heard. Through sponsorships, events, and volunteerism, they empower people to make a difference close to home. Every service, every connection, every initiative is a reflection of their founding vision—to connect and enrich the lives of those around them.

Why Co-op?

The co-op structure ensures that decision-making, ownership, and investment stay right where they belong—in Saskatchewan. That means every dollar earned goes back into strengthening local communities, not shareholders’ pockets. Nearly fifty years later, that founding spirit of local control and shared benefit remains the driving force behind everything Access does.

Access Communications proves that the co-op model isn’t just an alternative—it’s a blueprint for how business can work for communities, not just within them. From connecting homes to connecting hearts, Access is showing that when you build on co-operative principles, everyone wins.
